Geocache Description:

Follow the cement road and park close by. The cache is a plastic bottle hidden about ten minutes walking distance from the road. After you retrieved the cache, spend a few minutes to enjoy the view. If you are very lucky, you may see the wild horses in the distance.

Middlevlei is an old farm halfway between the village of Botriver and Hermanus. It is unclear what could have been farmed on these sanddunes. Today the farm has been turned into a small resort with a few hundred privately owned holiday cottages. The farm is located at the main mouth of the Botriver. Because drainage to the sea is not regular, a large lagoon has formed here. This is one of the biggest sanctuaries for birds in the Western Cape with large flocks of Pelicans and Flamingoes often seen. The mountains on the opposite side of the lake is the Kogel Mountains, part of the Kogel biosphere protection area, a world heritage site.
