Geocache Description:


The annals of Waverley Abbey record that the building of St. Mary the Virgin church began in 1239 and that it replaced an earlier church.




1) Enter the churchyard via the gate at the given co-ordinates. When were the gate lamps installed? 19xy .... A = x-y.

Now for a tour of the churchyard, pausing at the commerative benches to collect some numbers!

2) Go to the bench at N51°09.956 W000°47.800. How old would Edward George Tickner have been when he died? (5B)

3) Make your way to N51°09.979 W000°47.819. How many letters are there in Lady Elsa McLaggan's middle name? This is C.

4) D can be found on the bench at N51°10.019 W000°47.901 - how many letters in Mr. Sanders' first name?

5) The bench at N51°10.023 W000°47.925 is in memory of George & Nancy Thompson 198E.

6) Make your way back through the churchyard (or leave via a side gate and walk along the tarmac footpath that runs alongside the churchyard). At the front of the church is a sign which has the phone number of Revd Jane Walker (01252 792F37).

The cache can be found at N51° 09.BCA W000° 47.EDF. It's a small screw top tube hidden close to the churchyard. Please replace/cover carefully so that people walking past don't notice it!
