Jingshan Park is a refreshing and beautiful park located in the center of Beijing, just across the road from the famous Forbidden City. One of the best, if not the best, views of the Forbidden City can be seen from this park. A small cache awaits you with some spectacular views of the Forbidden City. There is a pen in the cache box. Access is only 10rmb to the park.
I was very surprised that Jingshan Park did not have a cache placed here before this time. Located in the center of Beijing it is an outstanding place to see a higher vantage point view of the areas both to the north and south of the Forbidden City. At the top of this small hill is Wanchun Pavillion, many people come here to take photos of the Forbidden City.
Jingshan Park may be best known from the story of the last Ming Emperor committing suicide here within the park. In 1644 a peasant uprising led by Li Zicheng broke into the city of Beijing. Then Emperor Chongzhen quickly escaped the Forbidden City to Jingshan Park. Realizing that all was lost, Emperor Chongzhen, along with his attendant hanged themselves. You can find an information board describing this scenario.
Jingshan Park was first built in the Liao and Jin dynasties, giving it a history of about 1000 years. The park previously was part of the Forbidden City, so the emperor could casually walk over to his private garden and relax. Later it was separated from the Forbidden City by development of a major city street.
This cache is a small sized container that may hold small travel bugs and geocoins. It has a few travel bugs to start and is waiting for you to replace them.
