Geocache Description:

The giant sculptures outside the Port Elizabeth airport were part of a beautification process undertaken prior to the 2010 World Cup soccer tournament.

You'll need to complete this cache when it's dark!

These sculptures now form a permanent part of the Port Elizabeth landscape. It is possible to walk right up to them. At night they are lit up from the inside, creating a striking effect.

These traffic circles experience high volumes of traffic and therefore oncoming vehicles from both sides need to maintain visual contact without discomfort from glare. This lighting installation is proof that an aesthetically pleasing structure can also comply with road regulations.

Steel flagpoles, aimed in the direction of the new Nelson Mandela Bay Multi-Purpose Sports Stadium are positioned around the iconic structures to add some eye-appealing decoration and atmosphere.

Adding to the soccer ball theme, six granite balls are also installed on the median of Alister Miller Drive, between the two illuminated structures. At night these granite balls are also illuminated ensuring their visibility to motorists and also giving the impression of large soccer balls.

The client was the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, the architects were Ngonyama Okpanum Hewitt-Coleman.

You will need to complete this cache in the dark at night time. Park at the listed coordinates and shine a torch in the direction of one of the steel soccer balls. You will see an identifying mark that will indicate the location of the nano cache.
