Hier befinden wir uns an einem Teil des Mayener Lavastromes der die weiterführung des Nordöstlich angrenzenden Etringer Lavastromes war. in der sogenannten Isopachenkarte (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isopache) vor Ort auf der Infotafel sind die Mächtigkeit der Lavaströme und der Schlackenablagerungen der Bellerberg-Vulkangruppe eingetragen. Nach dieser Karte sind die Mayener und Winfeld- Lavaströme im zentralen Bereich wesentlich Mächtiger als der Ettringer Lavastom. Im Winfeld Lavastrom nimmt die Mächtigkeit zu den Seiten Rapide ab. Das deutet darauf hin, das der Winfeld-Lavastrom in einem tief eingeschnittenen Bereich ausgeflossen ist. Dier Mächtigkeit des Mayener Lavastromes mimmt dagegen sukzessive nach außen ab. Die Lavaströme des Bellerberg-Vulkans gehören zu den "Aa-Lavaströmen". Man findet diese Lavaströme überwiegend in kontinentalen Lavagebieten wie hier in der Osteifel. Diese Lavaströme fließen häufig mit einer geringen Geschwindigkeit durch die Landschaft- manchmal mit nur wenigen Kilometern in der Stunde.
