We were inspired to base this cache
after new wooden banks were
installed in a place which offers a beautiful view of Nové
Mesto
pod Smrkem, The Jizera Mountains and Smrk, their highest
peak.
The town was founded as Nové Ceské
Mesto in 1584 by Melchior
Redern. Its establishment was closely connected with the mining
of
tin and other non-ferrous metals in the areas around the
town.
Modern history made the town famous for textile industry. The
current name, Nové Mesto pod Smrkem, has been used from 1945.
The town lies in the north-east part of the Frýdlantský
Headland
between the Jindrichovický Ridge and Smrk.
The mineral spring of „novomestská kyselka“,
Klinger's
Mausoleum, St Catherine's Church or the listed building of a
secession spa with a swimming pool are all worth visiting. Near
the
town there is Singletrack below Smrk, a track through the
countryside. There are a number of tourist-mark tracks, one of
them
leading to Smrk, the highest peak of the Jizera Mountains. A
steel
view-tower was built near the summit in 2003.

The first coordinates lead you to a bank near the Anna Höhne
cross
(currently under restauration in Oldrichov v Hájích). This place
offers a
beautiful view of the western part of the Jizera Mountains
from
Holubník through Ptací kupy, Svinské celo, Poledník, the
Hemmrich
saddle, Koprivník, Stržový vrch, Oldrichovský Špicák
as
far as Kancí vrch. The front part shows the Závorný ridge with
the
tree-lined road from Ludvíkov to Prebytek, Pekelský vrch and
the
forests of the Peklo Natural Park with a hill called Chlum.
The
view of Smrk and Medenec is very nice from here, too. In the
enclosure bellow the bank two horses, Gargan and Jura, feed
on
grass almost all year round.
The cache is situated in the following
coordinates:
