Scratchy Bottom!! Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

tanwillo: Sadly we are archiving this cache, after the original was taken and the ground around the hide very disturbed , we don't want to possibly have a problem with it continually happening now, on land which we have kindly been given permission to place some caches on, as others have too.

Many thanks for all the lovely logs we have really enjoyed reading them.

Geocache Description:

Another Great Dorset Name - Scratchy Bottom!!

This is a quick single stage multi within the Purbecks, that overlooks the valley of Scratchy Bottom, that on a clear day will have fantastic views.

Scratchy Bottom is a cliff top valley near Durdle Door in Dorset it is a dry valley set in chalk, and is surrounded by farmland and a sea based cliff top, some of the hills contain Tumuli’s, the coastal path stretch’s along the ridge and down into the valley of Scratchy Bottom, where the name is thought to refer to a rough hollow.

Scratchy Bottom was the location for the opening in the 1967 film ‘Far From The Madding Crowd’ a scene in which Gabriel Oaks ( Alan Bates ) sheep are driven over the cliff by a sheepdog!!

The cache is not set down in the valley, but along the coastal path which starts behind Newlands Farm near to the entrance of the Durdle Door caravan park. The wide firm footpath is also used by authorised vehicles, it may become slippery after rain.

The given co-ordinates will take you to a gate along the footpath, where you will have to find some information from a notice board next to the gate to find the cache location. This is a walk of less than a mile from the given parking waypoint for 3 to 4 cars. Please take care with children etc when you park as the road can be busy, you will need to walk down through Newlands Farm to access the start of the footpath.

You are looking for a small clip lok container, that when placed contained a logbook, pencil, some small swaps and a FTF prize.

The information you will need to find from the notice board is.
