Geocache Description:

****This cache is the first in a series of linked caches. You should do them in order, or you will not be able to complete the final cache, as each one contains clues to the final stash. The second (GC2PVT4), third (GC2PVVA) and fourth (GC2XQWV) caches should only be done after successfully finding this one.****

Arriving home one evening, you receive a typewritten letter, postmarked from Arkham, MA:

Allow me to introduce myself. I am Henry Armitage, Director of the Library here at Miskatonic University in Arkham, MA, and curator of the Special Reserved Collection of rare and occult books. My colleague Dr. Laban Shrewsbury, professor of esoteric anthropology and medieval metaphysics, said I must contact you should any ill befall him, as you were a renowned explorer and fellow seeker of knowledge who he trusts.

When last we spoke, Shrewsbury was preparing an expedition to the wilds of Colorado, to recover pre-human artefacts known as the “Celaeno Fragments” – shards of a rock-hard clay tablet that he believes were created by a race ante-dating the American Indians.

However, unlike the Eltdown Shards or the G'Harne Fragments, Shrewsbury assured me that these so-called Celaeno Fragments are of extra-terrene origin – he insists that they were not created on this world! His initial research during an expedition to far-flung Tibet and after consultation with a learned transcendental monk on the fabled Plateau of Leng, indicates that the Fragments may contain information about a portal created by an ancient race that inhabited the Earth long before mankind. He insisted that he had to reach the Fragments before his rival, Professor Wilcox from the University of Boston, finds the Fragments and discovers the secrets of the portal!

I have received an urgent telegram from Shrewsbury requesting assistance in Colorado. Unfortunately, I am unable to travel to that rough, western frontier as I am preparing for an expedition to Antarctica. Shrewsbury said I should trust you; therefore I implore you to aid me in recovering the Fragments and discover what happened to Shrewsbury in Colorado. Report back to me when you have found out his fate and that of the expedition!

COLORADO IS LOVELY STOP BISON EVERYWHERE STOP FIRST FRAGMENT FOUND NORTH OF DENVER STOP APPEARS TO CONTAIN A CODE OF SOME SORT STOP AM CLOSE TO LOCATING SECOND FRAGMENT STOP STRANGE DREAMS LAST SEVERAL NIGHTS STOP GUIDE REFUSES TO CONTINUE STOP CLAIMS ANCIENT EVIL FOLLOWS US STOP I REFUSE TO BELIEVE SUCH HOGWASH STOP HAVE HIDDEN FURTHER CLUE TO LOCATION OF FIRST FRAGMENT AT N39 59.668 W105 02.608 STOP HOPEFULLY THIS WILL PUT WILCOX OFF THE SCENT STOP SEARCH CONTINUES TOMORROW FOR NEXT FRAGMENT
