Geocache Description:

This Educational Event (EduVent) is brought to you by the members of: GeocacheAlaska!

Working hard to promote Geocaching in Alaska! Please join us today!

Meet fellow cachers and learn how to create those cool looking profile page statistics, manage your cache logs, and much, much more from experienced cachers on Thursday, March 17, beginning at 7:00 p.m., at the BP Energy Center, 900 E. Benson Blvd. (Click for map.)

Tonight's speakers are Michael Malvick (Ladybug Kids) and Victoria Noble (Blazingpathways), who routinely run Geocaching Swiss Army Knife (GSAK) macros to enhance their record keeping and keep caching statistics. You will gain more from this evening's course by downloading GSAK to your computer by following the link from the Geocaching.com Geocaching Software webpage and exploring it ahead of time. You may also bring your laptop to this session for the hands on exercises. Note, GSAK is only PC compatible. For a review of past GSAK information that's been shared, visit the GeocacheAlaska! Education webpage for downloadable materials.

Some of the topics that will be discussed at this EduVent include:

  • What are macros?
  • GSAK online macro database
  • Downloading a macro
  • Syncing your macro database
  • Running a macro
  • Editing a macro
  • StatGen macros
  • Add a log macros

This event is a live link via WebEx of event sites in these locations: Anchorage, Valdez and Soldotna. Please place a watch on this event page to stay appraised of the final details.  If you would like to host future presentations like this one elsewhere in Alaska, please contact Education Committee Chair, SSO JOAT.

Please arrive on time so upfront administrative details can be handled and announcements made, allowing the course content to start at 7:00 p.m. Adding a "Will Attend" log to this page will assure enough hard copy handouts are printed for the event participants. Also, please bring your favorite nonalcoholic beverage and favorite dessert to share with your fellow cachers.

There will be a free-will offering cache container at the event to help defray the costs of hosting these FUNdamentals events.
