Geocache Description:

A weekend four wheel drive adventure down The Border Track as an excuse to celebrate a few Moderately old farts birthdays with a bit of style and a whole lot of fun over Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd May. The listed coordinates are for the first mornings meeting point.

Adelaide to Pinnaroo is about 242 Ks so we will meet at Tailem Bend Shell Service Center back car park, Princes Highway around 7am sharp for a 7.30 am departure to Pinnaroo BP servo (UHF 16)
Fuel up at the Pinnaroo BP, permits and firewood are available here, and depart Pinnaroo by 10.00 for the Border.
Next fuel supplies will be at Bordertown about 160 Ks but you will use a lot of fuel in the soft sand. Please be sure to have enough fuel for the trip as well as water and other supplies.

Pack a lunch to have on the run and we will try and setup camp around 3 or 4 in the afternoon.

Dinner will be cook your own, (see dinner event) and we would like everyone to bring a bit of party type food to share for the shindig after dinner. Of course bring your own beverages for the celebration!!! It would also be good if everyone brought some fire wood along to contribute to the communal fire.

Camping will be at Red Bluff, depending on how well we travel, these sites are very basic. So you will need to be self sufficient.
Pine Hut Soak and Red Bluff have long drops, and all have a fireplaces with swing out BBQ plates. I’ve heard people say it’s very cold at night, so pack your thermals and hot water bottles.

This section of the Border Track is one way and comprises of soft sand and sand dunes with clay sections at the southern end. They say high clearance vehicles are recommended and tyre pressures between 15 to 18 psi, there are no rescue services in the area. So please ensure you pack standard supplies and spares for your vehicle. We will have low range cars to help if needed, but I know how well you can do in the sand.

Front recovery points will be needed, and I suggest an equalizer strap for a better recovery if needed. For those that may not have all the recovery gear, I have most things in my car if needed.
Other items you should bring are Shovel, Shackles, Snatch strap, sand flag, compressor etc

Sunday morning will be a relaxed start to the day, and most of the track will be along clay tracks with BIG mud holes, with bypass tracks. These holes can swallow complete cars, so check before diving in. We will head towards Bordertown or Keith to top up and head home from there.

We will have an end of trip spot where people can head off home , and for those that want to see some of Ngarkat we will head in to see some of the park then head home.

Entry to the track is free but camping fees apply of $6 a night.
To ensure safety we will limit this trip to 12 vehicles so please get your name, vehicle details, recovery equipment you have and number attending in quickly so you don't miss out.
