The Domino Principal Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

zgrav: Principal Archimedes stood at the window in his office, staring out through the streaks of water that were forming on the pane during a heavy summer rain. He was quiet and lost in thought, recalling bits and pieces of conversations over the years with some of his students. A smile flickered briefly around the edge of his lips, thinking about some of the assignments his students had started that had opened new doors into their thinking and careers. He called to mind that "Not all who wander are lost." and added to it " ... nor is the journey defined by its destination."

Turning away from the window, he went to his desk with thoughts of new tasks to come.

Another day, another class, another opportunity to try to light a spark in the dim reaches of his students’ minds. Principal Archimedes was going to use the upcoming school break to send his students out in the field to let them experience the challenge of discovery for themselves.

Principal Archimedes walks through the door as the class bell stops ringing. At the front of the room he flips the switch that closes the shades on the window. The students look-up to see if there is going to be a movie, but the screen stays hidden in the ceiling, Principal Archimedes flips the light switch, and the room goes dark. Really dark.

"One of the most important points about understanding what we see,"said Principal Archimedes, "is understanding how much we don't see."

He moves over to his desk, and suddenly the room is filled with bright green dots of light that bounce around on the walls and ceiling. "The human eye perceives only a sliver of the light spectrum, but even here in the dark we are inundated with radio waves, microwaves, electro-magnetic fields from power lines, cell phones, security systems, radar, and satellites."

As if on cue, the green points of light start moving in patterns, drawing stars, circles, wavy lines and grids all over the room.

"We are bombarded by subatomic particles that pass through our bodies and our planet without pause on their unstoppable journey through space. The battle to see and master those forces is fought with machines. Machines like the Hubble Telescope that uses radio waves to map the cosmos."

Principal Archimedes continues "On a more personal scale, X-rays, CAT scans and MRIs let us see inside our bodies. Ultra-Violet light is an important forensics tool that fluoresces crime scene evidence, and Infra-Red light lets security cameras penetrate the dark."

With those words, a purple glow comes from a light in the front of the room, and a word puzzle appears glowing on the board. The green light turns off, and a dim room light comes back on, leaving the word puzzle visible.

"So much information lying out of sight and out of reach. You will all use your upcoming school break to embark on your own discovery journey, and will use a number of tools to see the unseen. Find the fifteen hidden words and word combinations that are at least seven letters long in this children's puzzle to get a list of what you will need. Then complete the second task to find out where to start. I trust that you will all benefit from the mental and physical challenges that lie ahead."

Use these phrases for your assignment. Rearrange them, take account of your results, and sort them to find the starting point for your search.
