Elsie in Underland is based around the final resting place
of the Reverend Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, better known as Lewis
Carroll (LC = Elsie). The author of Alice in Wonderland, he
entered the "Underland" in the ninth year of the "Mauve Decade"
(the 1890s), and is buried here in The Mount Cemetery.
I wasn't around in the Mauve Decade personally, but I understand
that it also saw the birth of one of the greatest crime writers of
all time - Agatha Christie. So from one extreme to another! Lewis
Carroll wrote a children's fantasy adventure; why not go to the
other end of the spectrum, and look at some famous crime
authors?
(Well okay, perhaps I was just looking for a word to rhyme with
"Alice", and "Malice" seemed to fit the bill...)
Anyway, crime deserves punishment! So I'm giving you "Six of the
Best":
C = Agatha Christie
D = Arthur Conan Doyle
F = Ian Fleming
G = Michael Gilbert
L = Jonathan Latimer
P = Edgar Allen Poe

Well done to garyhoney and tjapukai for a joint FTF. Their logs
seem to indicate that the puzzle and cache have achieved all I
dreamt of as far as difficulty, pitfalls and general 'neatness' are
concerned.
