The Hobbit
, written by J.R.R. Tolkien
, details the voyages of Bilbo Baggins and the quest of 13 dwarves
to reclaim their family treasure that has been stolen and is
guarded by the dragon Smaug. Gandalf the Wizard convinces Bilbo to
join the group of dwarves as a “burglar” and Bilbo is
up for the adventure. Along the way the group encounters trolls,
large spiders, orcs, elves, goblins, and many other creatures of
Middle Earth. In a classic scene, Bilbo meets the odd creature
Gollum and discovers and takes possession of “The One
Ring”. Little did Bilbo know, but that encounter would end up
changing the course of history in Middle Earth.
Bilbo captured his epic voyage in his memoirs “There and
Back Again” from which “The Hobbit” takes its
name. Like Bilbo, your quest to find the final cache location will
take you on a long journey, with many twists and turns along the
way. You will have to answer a few riddles along the way (you may
want to become familiar with the dialog between Bilbo and Gollum!),
and the choices you make will either lead you further along the
journey or down a dead end.
This cache is meant to be fun! It is not a park and grab and
will require several miles of biking and/or hiking to grab the
final cache. The stages are all located near the edge of the woods
in George Bush Park and no heavy bushwhacking is required, but
there will most likely be high grass in the area. The best way to
go after this cache is on a bike, but you can cetainly park your
car at different locations and retrieve the waypoints on foot. The
final stage is a short hike along a right of way that may have some
high grass but is not too difficult.
We have put a few copies of J.R.R. Tolkien books in the cache
and a Hobbit video game (We have never played the game, hope it is
good!) for the FTF. We hope you enjoy your travels as you seek this
cache!
