Poor man's seat.. Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dalesman: This cache has been in need of care and maintenance for some time and as the owner has not responded to recent logs or logged into geocaching.com for some time I am archiving it.

Guidelines: "You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing."

If you wish to email me please send your email via my profile (click on my name) and quote the cache name and number.

Many thanks,
DalesmanX

Geocache Description:

Short Description

Not exactly a seat with a view or maybe not a seat at all, but it is a nice detour through Holme House Wood just off a well used path that links Myrtle Park to St Ives.

Long Description.

This is a small 300ml clip-lock cache that is located on one of the paths through Holme House Wood that is a well used walk between Myrtle Park in Bingley and the very popular St Ives Estate.

Care should be taken as this little cache is on a rough and sometimes muddy track just off the main path and with no steps up the hill it can be a short slog, so if you have rushed your way up from the bottom you may need a short a rest on the poor man's seat. The tree cover will play a little havoc with your GPS, so take your time and you should be fine.

I have given it a terrain difficulty of two, which may seem a bit much, but you do need to take care on this path or if you step off it as it may be slippery!

Whilst this is in a relatively quiet location, plenty of folk and their mutts still use these paths, so after signing the log, please carefully replace the cache in the same location as found.

Hints/Spoiler Info.

Please try to find it before decrypting the hint, as the hint really will spoil the fun and give you the exact location!

A little about Myrtle Park in Bingley.

Whilst the cache is not located in Myrtle Park, it is just across the River Aire in Holme House Wood via the 1951 Festival of Britain Bridge.

There is plenty to do in the park from walks by the River Aire, flying a kite on the field and in season a game of bowls, tennis or basketball may be arranged (usually April to Sept but check the council web site for Myrtle park) and the young 'uns can really enjoy the enclosed children's play area or watching the Cockatiels in the small aviary by the Cafe in the Park.

The Park can be busy at any time of the year, especially in summer with plenty of folk having picnics by the river, playing football or attending a music festival etc., so stealth may be required when hunting down this little nano cache.

When the weather is fine, the park is usually buzzing from dawn to late.

Parking, Buses and Trains.

If you wish to start your caching in Bingley, for a small fee, pay and display parking is available at N53 50.900 W001 50.385 from where you can also take a nice stroll down the steps and by the River Aire to the cache location in Myrtle Park. If you are not inclined to pay a wee fee to park the jalopy, you may be lucky to find room for the motor on some of the streets a little further away, but do take care not to park in permit only areas.

Bingley train station is also relatively close to Myrtle Park at coordinates N53 50.923 W001 50.223 and several buses also stop on the main street in Bingley, not too far from the park.

If you choose to start your walk down to Bingley from St Ives Estate the closest and free car park at St Ives can be located at N53 50.820 W001 50.942 which is also a great central location for other caches located in the area.
