The newly named Cache and Release SPRING 2011 (CCARS11) event will be held on April 30th and May 1st, 2011! Cache and Release is a multi-day geocaching event with two goals:
a) Encourage geocache hiders, like you, to hide your best cache ever, and thus raise the quality of geocaches in the Calgary area,
b) Create a fun-filled 24-hour geocaching finding frenzy for people like you! Anyone can participate in Calgary Cache and Release Spring 2011 and to be honest, the more - the merrier! We hope to see you at some time during the weekend!

Check out the photographs from previous CCAR events.

Scheduled events
The weekend will be packed with geocaching fun! The following events give some anchor points to the days, but feel free to set your own schedule!

• Launch Event - Saturday 30th April, 2011 - GC2P2GB - Munroe Park
We'll start off on the right foot with a CITO event on International CITO Weekend quickly followed by a CCARS11 rendezvous to give everyone their supplies for the next 24 hours! This is a great time to finalise your car-pool arrangements, meet your fellow seekers and get our GPS receivers readied!

• Midnight event - GC2P2FX - Saturday 30th April, 2011- 12:00-midnight to Sunday 1st May, 2011 c.1:30am
Twelve hours after hitting the road, it's time to pull over and take a break! Want to know who else is still out there at this crazy hour? Need to take on some energy? This is the only place to be at midnight on this wild night!

• Wrap-up event - Sunday 1st May, 2011 - GC2P2G4 - 12-noon - THIS EVENT!!
Twenty-four hours later and it's time to park that CCaR car and cosy on in with your fellow road-weary hunters!
Head on down 17th Avenue S.W. East of Crowchild Trail and turn South on 19th Street to 1919 - 19 Street S.W. Find a place to park on the street nearby, come in to the 18th Calgary Scout Hall and take a seat. Snacks, Food, and drinks will be purchasable at the event however no alcoholic beverages are permitted or purchasable.

Please indicate in your "will attend" log how many people will be in your party, so there will be enough grub for you!. (see pricing details below)
The hall is family-friendly and young children are encouraged to attend.
So, purchase your grub tickets on the way in, grab something refreshing to drink and once you find your way to a table, Scouts will serve you a plate of food. Fill out your voting card and sit back and share your mostly true lies from the highways and byways! You are encouraged to move around the room and share stories! Bring photo cards from your camera to share photos. Awards will be given out at an appropriate moment.
Food is $12.00 per person suggested donation, less for kids, at your discretion (half size pays half, of course). This includes Drinks, Popcorn snacks, Beef on a Bun with all the trimmings and a surprise yummy desert.(note if you need an alternative, note in your log or a pm to Hedgehog's Spoon, and we'll try and accommodate)
Please log your intention to come by Noon on Saturday of the event so we can put an extra "pea in the pot" for you!,

If you would like to place a cache - THANK YOU. The incredible caches that are placed for these events, for the enjoyment of the others, make these events most memorable! Hiders are requested to hide no more than one geocache per category for a maximum possible number of hides of five. (You are not required to hide a geocache in all categories if you do not wish to) and each geocache may only be entered into a single category.

Cache Effect requires you to have submitted your cache page by April 21st, 2011 (puzzle caches) or April 25th, 2011 (all other cache types). This allows enough time for a proper review before release on April 25th (puzzle caches) or April 28th, 2011 (all other cache types). If you submit your cache page after this date, we cannot guarantee that your cache will enter in the CCARS11.

During the rally, finders will be compiling notes on all the geocaches that they find. We will encourage finders to carry these sheets with them so that when it is time to cast their votes at the wrap-up event, they will have aide-memoires to guide them.

General:
1. No micros are allowed for this event, except for the "Micro" category. For this category there are additional restrictions on the container. Some of the most enjoyable caches we have found have been well designed micros. For this event, all cache sizes refer to the outer dimensions of the container. And the outer-most layer of the container should be labelled with, at least, the word "GEOCACHE".
2. For the CCARS11 event we do not allow caches hidden in evergreen trees.
3. Give your cache a name of your choosing, and use "CCARS11" as the last seven characters in the name so that we can create a pocket query for our use for the event.
4. Please submit your puzzle caches to our reviewer, Cache Effect, in time for publishing on April 25th, 2011, and all other geocaches in time for publishing on April 28th, 2011. The earlier deadline for puzzle caches is to allow finders more time, in advance of the actual rally, to solve the puzzles themselves (but not to find the containers). All puzzles should be solvable in about 30-minutes by the average geocacher.
5. Use the following (copy and paste) description on your cache page: This cache has been placed for the CCARS11 event, held April 30-May 1, 2011. This cache was released to the public on either April 25th* or April 28th, 2011. (*Earlier release date for puzzle caches) The cache should not be located prior to 12-noon, Saturday 30th April, 2011. The caches for the CCAR event are released early so that the geocaching community has an opportunity to plan their routes prior to the event start.
6. Use the following (copy and paste) for the reviewer note to Cache Effect: Please hold this cache and release it with the other caches at 6:00 pm on April 28th, 2011 (or 6:00pm on April 25th, 2011 for puzzle caches).
7. Use the provided category icon (see the "category icons" page) to mark your cache in the category of your choice.
8. Please design your caches, place them (with most excellent coordinates, please), and submit them to Geocaching.com prior to April 25th. Having them ready to go further in advance of this date will be appreciated since we don't want to have Cache Effect inundated with caches at the last moment.
9. Caches can be placed a maximum of 40 km from downtown Calgary (coordinates N51 02.658 W114 03.786).
10. There will be bragging rights for the best cache in each class. Each individual cache can be entered in only one category.

Categories:
Micro
Cache container must be a “micro” in size. Cache may not be hidden in a tree. Please ensure the log book is sized appropriately for a rally-style event Voters will judge cache on the creativity of the hider.

Not at posted coordinates
Final cache container must be at least a “small” in size. Cache must be a multi or unknown (puzzle or night cache) type. Voters will be looking for creativity at all stages/waypoints of a physical cache as well as on the cache listing page.

Monty Python
Cache must be at least a "small" in size. Cache should be themed to "Monty Python" - either one of the films, or a TV sketch, or a character or actor. There's plenty of reference material on the Internet and there's lots out there "in your general direction"!

Holiday
Cache must represent a major celebrated holiday: Easter, Christmas, Hallowe’en, Thanksgiving, Boxing Day, New Years, Good Friday, St. Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, May Day, Canada Day, Remembrance Day, and so on.

In plain sight
Cache must be completely exposed, i.e., the container itself must be visible to the naked eye. Voters will be looking for clever camouflage to make the container blend in with its surroundings. Cache must be at least "Regular" in size.
