Geocache Description:

This one is in Rock Butte Park on one of the number of rock climbing routes found here.

THIS CACHE REQUIRES THE ABILITY TO SAFELY RAPPEL/ ASCEND A FIXED ROPE. DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS CACHE IF YOU ARE NOT ABSOLUTELY COMFORTABLE WITH YOUR ABILITY TO CHOOSE AND SET A SAFE AND RELIABLE ANCHOR, TIE PROPER KNOTS, AND RAPPEL OR ASCEND SAFELY.

WEAR A PROPER CLIMBING HARNESS, LEATHER GLOVES AND A PROTECTIVE HELMET.

GO WITH A PARTNER WHO ALSO HAS EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING WITH ROCK CLIMBING TECHNIQUES AND SAFETY PROCEDURES.

ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK THAT YOUR HARNESS IS DOUBLE BACKED, THAT YOUR RAPPEL DEVICE IS PROPERLY ROUTED, YOUR CARABINERS ARE CLOSED AND LOCKED, YOUR KNOTS ARE PROPERLY TIED AND DRESSED, AND THAT YOUR ANCHOR IS SECURE AND RELIABLE.

STAY AWAY FROM THE EDGE UNTIL YOU ARE SECURED AND PROPERLY ANCHORED AS THE ROCKS ARE OFTEN WET, MUDDY AND MOSSY.

The coordinates are for the closest parking to GZ. From here follow the trail uphill from the road as it leads you behind the low rock wall. Continue for a little bit making your first left just before you reach the tunnel on your right. After you turn, proceed about 12 paces until you come to another fork. You know you're in the right spot when you can see a metal number "6" sign on the tree at your 1 o'clock position (when facing the hwy). When standing at this fork in the trail, I suggest using the tree directly to your right as an anchor point as this provides the straighest fall line for the rappel. From the fork, follow the trail to the left for about 30ft to the edge of the rock cliff. This part of the cliff should be an inside corner with a tree growing straight up the middle. You want to be on the right-side face (when facing the hwy).

Cache is a small Pelican Case with a log and a pencil. It is anchored to the rock by a hex nut and a length of 550 cord. There is sufficient cord to allow you to fully access cache without removing the anchor. Please rehide completely as this area has the potential to bring muggles up close and personal to the cache if not kept out of sight.

GOOD LUCK AND ENJOY!!
