WINTER FUN Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

the scruffs: I have today checked on my cache and it is missing. It was probably washed away by the torrential rain we experienced a few weeks ago. I did search lower down the field but there was no sign of it.
As this part of the common is now home to some Jacob sheep I am not replacing the cache as I can see it being disturbed frequently.
Sadly "WINTER FUN" is no more.

Geocache Description:

Coulsdon Common lies between Old Coulsdon and Caterham on the Hill, on the southern edge of Greater London. It covers an area of 51 hectares (127 acres) and it is owned and managed by the Corporation of London under the Corporation of London (Open Spaces) Act of 1878.

Nearly half of Coulsdon Common is now covered by woodland but most of this has developed since the latter part of the 19th century. Prior to this the land was probably heathland and, due to the poor soil, used only for grazing. Without the many trees that now occupy much of the area, it would have been very windswept and therefore an excellent position for the two windmills, which used to exist within its boundaries.

The cache has been placed near to a slope very popular in the winter when the snow falls as it is ideal for all the family to go tobogganing. Hence the cache name.

You are looking for a clip lock box, which when placed contained :-
Mr Funny Hand warmer
Pirate Sticker book
Thomas & Friends Fun Dough
Penguin in the snow Bouncy ball
Log Book
Pen

The initial swaps are designed to appeal to children as the theme for this cache is “fun”.

The closest access to the relevant part of Coulsdon Common can be found at the eastern end of Caterham Drive. The slopes and footpaths are extremely muddy and slippery in the winter. Take care.

Spring 2012 - Cows have now been introduced to graze this area. Please approach with caution.

The GPS can be somewhat erratic under the trees.
