Geocache Description:

The Santa Fe Ghost Hunt is a series of (mostly) easy caches designed to bring you to some of the most haunted spots in and around this ancient city and reveal some of the stories associated with these locations.

Grant Corner Inn

The Legend
The house sitting at 122 Grant Avenue, about a block south of where you're standing, was built around the beginning of the 20th century. There are several variations of the stories of hauntings in this house and the origins of many are unclear. What is clear is that this is one extremely spooky residence, as many former guests and inhabitants will testify to. The most commonly told tale relates to an invalid child and his mother and temperamental stepfather. Visitors to the family would often hear the boy upstairs crying or banging on the walls. Legend has it that one day the boy rolled his wheelchair down the stairwell in effort to gain attention and suffered fatal injuries. After the mother and stepfather moved away, neighbors reported seeing lights in the upstairs window of the vacant house -- right where the boy's room was. Later owners of the house reported hearing noises from the same room as if the boy was still there. Over the years, the building has been remodeled several times, but stories persist of objects falling, footsteps and slamming doors being heard, and a grayish figure -- sometimes in the shape of a women -- appearing in the upstairs hallway. In almost all the stories, the second floor seems to be the source of spiritual unrest.

The Location
The house is formerly, and perhaps best, known as the Grant Corner Inn which operated as a highly regarded bed & breakfast for about 25 years (1982-2007) and was known to have hosted celebrities such as Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan. In the early 1900s, it was the home and office of the town's Justice of the Peace, who performed many local marriages in the house's parlor. In 2007, the building was sold and transitioned into the Andrew Smith Gallery, which sells 19th and 20th century photographs. The haunted room of the little boy is on the back side of the house on the second floor.

The Cache
Due to the presence of existing caches in the immediate vicinity, the cache for the Grant Corner Inn is located some 325 feet from the house itself. The container can be easily reached without leaving the public sidewalk. After finding it, walk south along Grant Avenue (see additional waypoint) and look for the sign for the Andrew Smith Gallery on your right.

The Series
Most of the caches are located in downtown Santa Fe and are easily accessible on foot at night should you be bold enough to do so. Please post photos if you encounter any otherworldly entities while searching!
