The Potala palace was built in the 7th century, the time of Songtsan Gampo. In the 17th century the 5th Dalai Lama extended the palace to is present size. At this time it became the Dalai Lamas domicile in winter. The main construction is divided into two sections. The White section for the administration and the Red section for the religious affairs. It is 116 meters high and a landmark of Lhasa.
Today the palace is only a museum. Visitors have only 1 hour to go through the palace (only with guide). Unfortunately you can´t go to the terrace on the rooftop. But if you are interested in architecture and the living rooms of the Dalai Lamas - don´t miss it!
Please bring a pen with you and please take care of muggles.
And now happy hunting and feel free to upload some pictures!
