Geocache Description:

About SideTracked
We have Motorway Mayhem. We have A-Road Anarchy (cos there aren’t many Motorways in Wales!). But what about public transport users? SideTracked Caches are intended to provide quick Cache-and-dashes at Train Stations.

SideTracked (http://www.sidetrackedseries.co.uk) started at Evesham station on August 10th 2007, placed by schnarff & bikermel76. It took a while to get started, but is now spreading across the country!

You are looking for a magnetic nano and it is sited safely away from the track and all dangers associated with railways, so there’s no need to go exploring anywhere that the owners would not wish you to.

The cache is located at what used to be a mainline station in Bala, but now forms the eastern terminus of the Bala Lake Railway (visit link) , having converted from standard gauge to a 2’ narrow-gauge in 1972, this railway is now one of what is collectively known as the Great Little Trains of Wales. My thanks go to the railway company, who have given their permission for this cache and for my other Sidetracked cache at Llanuwchllyn.
If possible, start four and a half miles westward of here, by solving the Sidetracked cache at Llanuwchllyn station and catch the train here, the ride, along the foreshore of the lake, is one of the best in Wales. If you’re in no great hurry, why not also stop off at Pentrepiod Station where robbo 10 has one of his Bala Views series, or at Llangower, where surfski 1 has hidden Stage 1 of a multi cache. If you feel energetic, you could start at Llanuwchllyn, walk the lanes along-side the railway and pick up all 4 caches along this side of the lake, they are all accessible from the road. Come to think of it, there’s also welshsmilegirl’s Generating History to be bagged, just a few hundred metres from Llanuwchllyn Station. End your journey by catching a train back to the start of the line, where a superb little café in the old station waiting room will be the ideal place to rest your feet and take a cuppa.
