More about the Folklore Museum
Many years ago the very kind Poliodakis Family recognized the history value of tools, furniture, pictures and other equipment from daily life and started to take care of them and organized their Family Museum. A large part of their property and their courtyard is used for their so called "Folklore Museum". Bit by bit they enlarged their museum and if necessary with tender und lovingly care they are restoring these treasuries. If you like to go for this cache you should now the entrance is for free. And if you ask for George or Manolis they can give a lot of additional information. We recommend you should take some time for this visit, relaxing with a drink while being here and watching this nice exhibition. The cache is located in the courtyard of the museum (not in one of the four exhibition rooms inside the house) and it is not too difficult to find it. The Poliodakis family is informed about the cache and Geocaching so don´t be shy while searching.But, please take care not to disturb other guests while searching and logging the cache. By the way, if the kitchen is open, their meals are as well traditional and fantastic.
How to find Asteri and Polios´s House?
Coming from West on the New Road take the exit N 35° 22.972 E 024° 35.268 direction Old Road / Iraklion and turn left to Waypoint 3. Coming from East take the exit on N 35° 22.791 E 024° 34.794 direction Old Road / Rethymno but turn sharp right to Waypoint 3. In Stavromenos then go right on Waypoint 3 N 35° 23.028 E 024° 35.632 and head on the small road to Asteri via Hamalevri. In Asteri on Waypoint 4 N 35° 22.112 E 024° 35.819 you will see an information board directly leading to the Folklore Museum, turn right and then drive to parking area on Waypoint 5 N 35° 22.085 E 024° 35.793. The cache is a micro. It is a plastic film box The FTF reward is a "RenPet Voucher" for a coffee / drink you like. After logging please hide the cache well to avoid it from muggles. Enjoy the visit.
