For over a year and a half, our family has enjoyed walking past and
observing the burrowing owls that have taken residence in the small
culverts along the wash way. If you've ever seen the show Meerkat
Manor, you'll have an idea of what we mean when we say it's kind of
like that with these owls. We've observed last year's little ones
grow up and take charge, and so on.
These owls are VERY CUTE! They are quite accustomed to people
walking past, and you can easily come within a few feet. We've
taken many photographs of them, so they're already fairly used to
the lime-light. Please, don't hurt or distrupt them, however. We've
really enjoyed their presence, and hope you will too!
The cache is very near one possible viewing location for the
owls (site A). If you do not see any owls at this site, see the
Additional Coordinates (site B, and site C) for the other possible
owl viewing locations. Basically, if you walk along this wash path,
you will most likely see them at one of the drain pipes along the
way. They are best viewed during morning and evening time, but can
even be seen during mid-day. It is quite rare to not be able to
spot at least one somewhere along the way.
Do not enter into the wash if there is any sign of flood.
