Welcome to the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site!

From May 16 – October 15 your visit begins at our Visitor Reception Center.  From October 16 to May 15 please call ahead (902) 733 2280 to arrange your visit.



You are looking for a small green container containing a log book and pencil. Read the information sheet in the cache and let your mind’s eye takeover! 
  

The geocache is a partnership of the Atlantic Canada Geocache Association, Parks Canada, and the Fortress of Louisbourg Association. Please pay appropriate site entry fees.

 As per the Parks Canada geocaching policy: Trade items are not permitted in caches, this includes Travel Bugs.

Du 16 mai au 15 octobre, votre visite débutera au centre d’accueil.  Du 16 octobre au 15 mai, SVP appeler au (902) 733-2280 pour planifier votre visite.

Vous cherchez un petit contenant vert renfermant un carnet et un crayon.  Lisez le feuillet d’information dans la cache et laissez votre imagination vous emmenez !

About 14 meters of coastal land has been lost at Louisbourg since the mid-18th century (Sea level has risen about 80cm). This means that once land-fast structures are now within reach of the high tide, and will soon be lost to the sea.

Today technology, such as GIS (Geographical Information System) software, LiDAR (light detection and ranging) for detailed topography, and GPS receivers for mapping cultural sites help the archaeologists relate plotted sites to the landscape, built structures, and historical plans more easily and more accurately than in the past.

 Environ 14 mètres de littoral est disparu à Louisbourg depuis le milieu du 18è siècle, le niveau de la mer ayant monté d’environ 80cm.  Des structures qui autrefois étaient bien à l’abri des marées sont maintenant à leur portée et seront bientôt avalés par la mer.

Des technologies modernes telles que le SIG (Système d’Information Géographique), le Lidar (télédétection au laser), et les récepteurs GPS aident les archéologues à réconcilier les points relevés avec le paysage, les bâtiments et les plans historiques plus facilement et plus précisément que par le passé.
