This cache was placed to coincide with NoVAGO's "Frozen Event" (GC1132A) held on 27 Feb 2011. This is a multi-cache, hidden in Lake Fairfax Park. A park with a wealth of attractions including camping, fishing, boating, hiking, off-road cycling, picnicking, a great in-season water park, and numerous peaceful green spaces where you can relax and contemplate nature. The containers are placed just off a developed/maintained section of parkland. The size indicated (small) pertains to the final only, intermediate stage sizes could be less, some may even reflect a “bio” influence!! Only a slight amount of bushwhacking is required when approaching each stage’s location...and depending upon where you start, this cache will lead you on a gentle .5 mile circuit. The initial stages are a little "different", and kids may especially enjoy the containers. The final is well stocked.
There are numerous other geocaches within the park, and surrounding area. Plan ahead and you can really do some caching!
Did you happen to notice that the Attribute section of this cache page includes a “Beacon”? That means an electronic geocaching beacon (Chirp™) is transmitting in close proximity to one of the stages. If you are using a Chirp™ capable GPS receiver, you might want to ensure that the Chirp™ Search Mode is turned “on”. If you should happen to find the Chirp™ itself, please resist the urge to physically touch, tamper with, or remove it.
NOTE 1: All stages of this multi-cache can also be found in the traditional manner, it is NOT necessary to employ Chirp™ technology to complete it successfully - you just need to find the stages and sign the log which is inside a clear, rectangular container -- INSIDE the final container. You may have to do a "projection", or not - IF you have a compass and can count to 500
NOTE 2: Oh, speaking of Attributes...did you also notice the "Field Puzzle" one? I wonder which stage that applies to?
And...speaking of containers, please be gentle and take the best care possible - some items are rather fragile. PLEASE replace them exactly as, or better than found.
SPECIAL SEASONAL NOTE: The Multi-Purpose Fields (AKA Cricket Fields) themselves are closed during the winter season. However; there is a paved path/service road that you can walk from the large paved parking lot (P2) to cross the field to stage 1. Once you've found stage 1 please walk the perimeter of the fields - you’ll find that is also the best way to approach each of the remaining stages.
This cache fully complies with the geocaching guidelines published by the Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA), and formal permission for placement was received. FCPA parks are open dawn to dusk. Do NOT hunt this cache at night or at any other time the park is closed.

NOTICE: Please be respectful of the posted park hours. If you enter the park after hours you are trespassing. If you are stopped you can be ticketed or arrested and will put the future of geocaching in the parks in jeopardy. |
