west entrance to Red Canyon sr 12 utah
This cache is accessable only!! from the parking lot at the west entrance to Red Canyon.Years ago when sr 12 was accepted into the state road system and after improvements and the tunnels had been blasted through did this happen. The road was yet unpaved; the nature of the soil here is such being of Iron Oxide and as vehicles going up and coming down caused the red dust to become static and magnetic where it would cling to cars in the most discussting manner. The blasters did thier job but J W Humphry chief forrest ranger had the solution . In the last rock formation leaving Red Canyon on the west side they drilled a hole and a broom was placed there ;hence the name.after coming down through the canyon one would stop get the broom out of it's hole and sweep the dust off. There is another broom hole at the eastern entrance. The cache is on the south side of the formation the broom hole is on the extreme nw west corner about eye level and must be only accessed around the west side!! There is absolutly no need to set foot in the hi-way !!!
