Geocache Description:

Church Micro 1564...Cardington

This cache has been placed to bring you to the Church of St Mary the Virgin, Cardington.

This cache is a small sample tube, a bit longer than a 35mm film canister but with a smaller radius. It only contains a log - you are a geocacher, you should have a writing implement!

Please note that the final cache is located outside the churchyard and is NOT accessible from inside the churchyard.

The parish church of St. Mary the Virgin is a Grade 2 Listed Building. It was mostly rebuilt between 1897 and 1901 through the generosity of the Whitbread family, though the chancel dates back to the early 13th century. The remainder of the church was built in 1901 through the generosity of the Whitbread family. There is a side chapel with monuments commemorating the Whitbread family and a very rare black basalt font. There is also a plaque to John Howard, the prison reformer, who lived in the village.

Cardington is perhaps best known for the airship hangars and its links with the R101 airship. The tattered ensign of the R101 is laid up in the church. The churchyard contains a memorial to those who died on the R101.

To find the location of the final cache, you will need to find the doors inside the southern porch. There are A hinges. Each hinge has B spirals and C diamonds in the metalwork.

The final cache can be found at N 52° 07.(C/A)(A-4)(A+C) W 000° 24.(2*C)(B+3)(B-C)

While here, Premium Members may also want to get a closer look at the memorial and hangars by doing R101 GCK78E. by Beds Clangers. It may be archived but its still in place.

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication
