Mannen på bilden föddes 1898 och han växte upp i Solvarbo. Han blev professor i nationalekonomi, handelsminister och internationellt känd bl a för att han 1974 fick Ekonomipriset till Alfred Nobels minne.

Kvinnan på bilden är hans hustru, hon föddes 1902 i Uppsala. Även hon var statsråd och hon fick Nobels fredspris 1982.

Tillsammans skrev makarna 1934 boken Kris i befolkningsfrågan som fick stor betydelse för trettiotalets svenska debatt om familjepolitiken.
År 1944 utkom den internationellt uppmärksammade boken An American Dilemma som beskrev de svartas situation i USA. Boken blev ett klassiskt verk om rasrelationer och kom att spela roll i den amerikanska debatten.

Cachen är en liten behållare och är placerad i närheten av den gård på vilken mannen växte upp. Cachen innehöll ursprungligen en loggremsa, penna och FTF-pris.

This man was born in 1898 and he grew up in Solvarbo. He became a professor in economics, Minister for Trade and he received international fame because of, among other things, he received the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences.

His wife, born in Uppsala 1902, also became a cabinet minister and she received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1982 .

This married couple wrote 1934 Crisis in the Population Question which was very important for the discussion about Swedish family planning.
In 1944 the man wrote his most known work, An American Dilemma, which attracted much attention. In the book he characterized the problem of race relations as a dilemma because of a perceived conflict between high ideals on the one hand and poor performance on the other.
