Please measure one of the planks of the first step (which consists of two planks of very similar size). Take the measure in precision of half a cm.

At this position you will find a reflector on a tree, about 20cm from the floor.
10 such reflectors mark a path which results in a triangle like the one shown in the graphics. Look for the next reflector in roughly south direction. Don’t worry if you do not find all of them. The ones marking the triangle corners are the important ones.
Please measure the 3 distances which would result in the “perfect” triangle. Please be aware that measuring your walking path would result in slightly different distances as you will not be able to walk totally straight. (even without any drinks before – it’s because of the terrain ;-) )

Nessa posição você vai encontrar um refletor numa árvore, a cerca de 20 centímetros do chão.
10 refletores tal marcam um caminho que resulta num triângulo como mostrado no gráfico. Procure o próximo refletor na direção aproximada do sul. Não te preocupes se não os encontrares todos. Só os que marcam os cantos do triângulo são mesmo importantes.
Por favor, toma as medidas de três distâncias que resultavam num triângulo. Lembre-se que medir o trajecto a pé resulta em distâncias um pouco diferente porque tu não és capaz de andar totalmente em linha recta. (mesmo sem beber nada antes - é por causa do terreno;-))

Here some hints about the reflectors (the numbers below are in the order of the reflectors):
- trailhead, 20 cm from the floor
- height from floor: 140cm, continue. The next distance will be longer. (You can see reflector 1 from this point, if you look back, to check your direction)
- height from floor: 220cm, just continue
- height from floor: 200cm, you might just see a bush in front of you, continue the path in the same direction.
- height from floor: 120cm, here you should measure distance 1. Look for the next reflector on your left.
- height from floor: 170cm, just continue in the same direction, even if you do not see the next reflector. (At a check I had a full moon against me and this made it impossible to see the reflector. If you look back, you see reflector 5.)
- height from floor: 210cm, you reached the next corner of the triangle. Here you should measure distance 2 and distance 3. Look for the next reflector on your left.
- height from floor: 180cm, continue
- height from floor: 180cm, continue
- height from floor: 200cm. Congratulations!
The last 3 reflectors are just to give you the shape of the triangle. From reflector 10 it is not possible (or very hard ;-) ) to return directly to the trailhead, but you already have all necessary data for finding the final. |
Aqui vao algumas dicas sobre os refletores (os números abaixo correspondem à ordem com que aparecem os reflectores) : </ p>
- trailhead, 20 cm do chão
- altura do chão: 140cm, continue. A próxima distância será mais longa. (podes ver o refletor 1 a partir deste ponto, se olhares para trás, para verificar a sua direção)
- altura do chão: 220cm, continua
- altura do chão: 200cm, só consegues ver um arbusto à tua frente, continua o caminho na mesma direção
- altura do chão: 120cm, aqui deves medir a distância 1. Procura o refletor próximo à tua esquerda.
- altura do chão: 170cm, basta continuar na mesma direção, mesmo que não vejas o refletor seguinte. (ao experimentareu tinha uma lua cheia contra mim e isso tornou impossível para ver o refletor. Se você olhar para trás, você vê reflector 5.)
- altura do chão: 210cm, você chegou na esquina próxima do triângulo. Aqui você deve medir as distâncias 2 e 3. Procura o próximo refletor à sua esquerda.
- altura do chão: 180cm, continue
- altura do chão: 180cm, continue
- altura do chão: 200cm. Parabéns!
Os últimos 3 refletores são apenas para lhe dar a forma do triângulo. A partir do refletor 10 não é possível (ou é muito difícil;-)) voltar diretamente para o início do trilho, mas você já tem todos os dados necessários para encontrar o final. |

You may have noticed that the triangle shows a nearly 90° angle between distance 1 and distance 2. What would be distance 3, if this angle really would be 90°, keeping distance 1 and distance 2 as they are? Please just take this calculated value in meters without decimals. This is your value D. If you again take the initial coordinates as N1 and W1 you can now calculate the the final coordinates N3 and W3:

Recommended equipment:
- something to measure in half cm precision up to at least 2 meters (tape measure)
- some calculation device for square roots (pocket calculator, mobile phone, brain)
- torch and/or headlamp, the brighter the better. Reflectors just reflect what they get. More power helps:-)
- gps, perhaps with a backup device so that everybody finds home again
- some know-how in gps handling to save waypoints and measure distances in 10m precision
- something to write

Equipamento recomendado:
- algo para medir a precisão até 0,5 cm e com pelo menos 2 metros (fita métrica)
- alguma coisa para cálcular de raízes quadradas (calculadora de bolso, telemóvel, o cérebro)
- lanterna ou lampada, quanto mais brilhante, melhor. Os refletores apenas refletem a luz que recebem. Maia potencia ajuda :)
- gps, talvez com um aparelho de backup para que todos encontrem a sua casa novamente
- algum know-how no tratamento de gps para guardar waypoints e medir distâncias em termos de precisão de 10 m
- algo para escrever

Notes:
- Please be aware that you will probably just find the reflectors in the night. (I tried to find them during the day one day after I had put them. I still remembered their positions quite well but just found 7 of 10 ;-))
- Equip yourself properly, especially to find the way back. This includes gps or good orientation and light! You can use the initial point to navigate back as your cache mobile will probably be there.
- Make sure that you either have spare batteries or a manual recharchable torch. (quite fancy in these days)
- Never let garbage back! The area was clean when I put the cache. If you find some garbage please be a nice human and bring it to the next container. (not far from the initial point)
- Please take care and think on the roots!
- When you have finished you might like to enjoy the night view of the sea and some night panorama at the waypoint “relax”. Just follow the stairs at the initial point.

- Está ciente de que provavelmente apenas vais encontrar os refletores à noite. (Eu tentei encontrá-los durante o dia, no dia seguinte a te-los colocado. Eu ainda me lembrava das suas posições muito bem, mas encontrei apenas 7 de 10;-))
- Equipar-se adequadamente, especialmente para encontrar o caminho de volta. Isto inclui gps ou boa orientação e luz! Você pode usar o ponto inicial para regressar porque o teu "cachemobile" provavelmente estará lá.
- Certifica-te que tems baterias ou pilhas de reposição ou uma laterna carregar manualmente. (bastante na moda agora)
- Nunca deixe lixo na natureza! A área foi limpa quando eu coloquei a cache. Se você encontrar algum lixo, por favor, sê um bom humano e trá-lo para o próximo balde do lixo. (não muito longe do ponto inicial)
- Por favor, tem cuidado e pensa nas raízes! </ li>
- Quando terminares podes apreciar a vista noturna do mar e algum panorama da noite no waypoint "relax". Basta seguir as escadas no ponto inicial.
