The Hoopers Island Lighthouse is located four miles west of Middle Hoopers Island. Built in 1902 for approximately $61,000, and automated in 1961, it is one of only eleven pneumatic caisson lighthouses built in the US. It is the only cast-iron caisson lighthouse in Maryland with a watch room and lantern atop a tower. Containing four living levels, and located in water that's 18 feet deep, the foundation sits 13 1/2 feet below the bottom of the Bay.
Although the Lighthouse can be viewed from all points on the Island, this Lookout provides one of the most beautiful views.
