SideTracked caches are not designed to take you to a magical place with a breath taking view. They are just a distraction for the weary geocaching traveller, but anyone else can go and find it too.
This cache has been set to create a cache and dash near Kempston Hardwick Station. The cache is not located located on railway property but is only a short stroll from the station.
Kempston Hardwick is to the north west of the village of the same name. It is situated on the Marston Vale Line. The station is managed by London Midland. The station is between Bedford St Johns to the east and Stewartby to the west. There is an hourly service in each direction, except on Sundays when the line is closed.
The station was opened by the London and North Western Railway in 1905. The station closed as a wartime economy measure during World War One. The level crossing alongside the station was once controlled by a crossing keeper who lived in a lodge adjacent to his place of work. This was demolished in the 1960s. The original station buildings have also been demolished following a collision with a lorry carrying bricks.
In 2003, it was reported that Kempston Hardwick was one of the 'quietest stations in England' as only 38 muggles per month were reported to be using it. Patronage has, however, now "jumped" to around 2.5 times this figure due to the creation of significant numbers of jobs in the area.
The cache is now a 2ml tube. It only contains a log. You will need to bring your own writing instrument.
Please log any issues / DNF's - as I can check the cache quite easily.
