Patrick Moore was born in Pinner, Middlesex in 1923, then moved
to East Grinstead in Sussex where he spent his childhood. He became
interested in astronomy at just six years old and at the age of
eleven, joined the British Astronomical Association.
Patrick went on to serve in the RAF in the second world war
where he reached the rank of Flight Lieutenant.
After the war, he set up home in Selsey, West Sussex where he
constructed a home-made reflecting telescope in his garden to
observe the moon.
I have placed the cache on a coastal path within 150 ft of a
bench where you can sit and take in the lovely views out to sea and
along the Solent. Should you be there at night, you will also be
able to observe the stars overhead if the skies are clear.
On road parking can be found nearby in West Street though please
comply with the parking restrictions between April and September.
As with all coastal towns, the area can get very busy during the
summer months and the cache is on a popular dog walking route so
stealth will be required all year round.
