Le site sur lequel se trouve le château de Montbrun a connu plusieurs châteaux successifs remontant à 1179, château à motte que l'on distingue encore, puis donjon carré de pierre au XIIème siècle, auquel s'ajoute au XIIIème siècle un pont-levis et une prison. La guerre de Cent ans marqua le le château lorsque les anglais l'incendient et le transforment en ruine en 1385. Au XVème siècle par Pierre de Montbrun, évêque de Limoges, reconstruit une nouvelle fois le château, et c'est celui que nous pouvons voir aujourd'hui. Épargné par les guerres de religion, le château n'aura pas la même chance à la Révolution durant laquelle il fut pillé et dévasté. Il fut restauré en 1875 et également au XXème siècle.
Ouvert d'avril à octobre : visites guidées tous les jours de 14h à 18h. Groupes : toute l'année sur réservation. Se mirant dans les eaux d'un étang, le château de Montbrun est le témoin vivant de l'évolution de l'habitat et de l'architecture militaire médiévale en Limousin. Il fait partie de la Route Richard Cœur de Lion.
