In Valasske Mezirici, at the confluence of Vsetín and Roznov Becva River lies Abacie, a historical park. In the park, there is situated a monument commemorating solders who died at the local military hospital for consequences of injuries suffered at the Battle at Slavkov in 1805.

Even though Valasske Mezirici is some 100 km distant from Slavkov, hardly anybody knows that consequences of the famous battle of three emperors descended as far as here. In the former Zerotin Castle, now called The Centre of Culture a military hospital was established during the battle of Slavkov to which wounded solders from that battle were brought in. Those, who succumbed to their injuries and raging cholera, were buried in the common grave. On its place, in 1899 a stone monument was erected.

On December 2, 1805, the French Empire army led by the Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte wiped out forces of Russian and Austrian allies led by the Tzar Alexander Ist and M.I.Kutuzov, and Franz Joseph I, the Emperor.

Even though the French emperor controlled the initial phases of the battle from the Zuran hillock and Franz Joseph I together with the Tzar Alexander had their headquarters established in Krenovice, the French emperor called the battle according to Slavkov, situated some 9 km from the centre of the battlefield– allegedly because one day before the battle both allied monarchs stayed overnight at the Slavkov Castle, but perhaps also in honor of the castle itself, because Napoleon, who stayed here overnight on December 4, was greatly impressed by it.
