This is a three-stage multi-cache in celebration of TurtleFan’s 1,000th find! You’ll need to be sharp with your geo-senses, especially when looking for the coordinates for the final stage. The final stage container is full of wonderful, turtle-appropriate swag for all to enjoy! Enjoy our celebration cache in honor TurtleFan!
Our friend, TurtleFan (not to be confused with Turtlefan, turtlefan, turtleFan or TURTLEFAN), has achieved a significant milestone – 1,000 finds. Congratulations!! We are placing this cache in celebration of TurtleFan and her many finds. As a fan of turtles, we’ve done a little bit of research about those cool creatures and have found that there are precisely 14 extant (still living) families of the order Testudines, an order of reptile commonly known as turtles, tortoises and terrapins. Consistent with the number of families that exist, we want to share 14 TurtleFan facts or observations in celebration of the honoree:
1. She prefers to go by TurtleFan – that’s a capital T and capital F!
2. TurtleFan signed up to this hobby we all know and love in 2004, but didn’t start caching until 2009.
3. Her first cache was “CBMB 527 In-SEICHE-able – REVISITED” by Hutt on 26 July 2009.
4. In a very short period of time (18 months) she has found more than 1,000 caches.
5. She is well known for her many creative, original and enjoyable caches she has created since starting in 2009 – 40 as of this cache going live.
6. TurtleFan takes the time to personalize each log she enters for caches found and provides stories that are very fun to read in each log.
7. She doesn’t like folks to enter only TFTC in their logs and often makes longer descriptions compulsory for achieving credit for her caches.
8. TurtleFan is an excellent geocaching citizen who is on top of each of her caches and ensures any maintenance issues are addressed ASAP, while also helping out other caches whose COs haven’t yet had a chance to provide maintenance! She also will take the time to help many Travel Bugs make their way all over the world, logging many miles for each along the way!
9. Always ready to lend a partnering hand, she frequently offers help to fellow cachers on finds and is a wonderful caching partner, often looking for caches with groups of fellow geocachers – ensuring the overall experience is always fun!
10. She has cached in 15 States (IL, NY, FL, IN, GA, NC, VA, MI, PA, OH, IN, MA, RI, CA and NV), our nation’s capital, and five countries total (USA, UK, Switzerland, Hungary & The Netherlands).
11. TurtleFan frequently hides caches in celebration of other geocachers in the community including, among others, Tzinny, Birdman270, Sprocketta, Slainte1969, BAT, Princess, Aberino, Geofogies, and KU Jayhawk.
12. Caching with TurtleFan isn't all about the cache - there is always good conversation and more than a few laughs!
13. She is a great historian of her adventures, as she takes many pictures and uploads them for all to enjoy - they are fun to peruse and you can tell that caching is more than just numbers for her, it's very much an adventure to be shared and celebrated!
14. According to TurtleFan, geocaching is “not a race” and is to be thoroughly enjoyed! It’s not about the numbers … it’s about having fun searching and hiding caches – enjoying every aspect of this great game. And while we agree with her, we just couldn’t help singling out this significant “number” victory of 1,000 for TurtleFan. I’m sure even she would agree that on this occasion, it is about the number!!
TurtleFan’s contributions to our area geocaching community are significant and well appreciated! Thank you, TurtleFan, for all you’ve done to promote geocaching, the fun we’ve had with you caching (both searching and hiding) and congratulations on your 1,000 finds. We know it won’t be too long before we are celebrating your 2,000th!
