Geocache Description:

SK:
Palugyayov palac bol postaveny v rokoch 1873-9 podla projektu Ignaca Feiglera ml. Projekt palaca rozvijal anticku koncepciu palladianskeho palaca.

EN:
Palugyay Palace was built in 1873-9 based on the project of Ignac Feigler Jr. The palace project developed the ancient concept of the Palladian palace. It was designed such that the production-administrative function seamlessly worked together with the residential-representational function of the building. Despite its industrial function, it was built with a high standard of artistic and craft detail. The company's warehouses and deep cellars, due to the avoidance of city tolls payment, opened into the yard next to the then railway station, which was beyond the customs border of the city. During this period, the building was called Chateau Palugyay.

Jacob Palugyay (1819-1886), the founder of the wine trading, was the first in Bratislava to introduce the sale of bottled wine, which soon won prestigious wine awards. His still and sparkling wines under the Chateau Palugyay brand were established at the imperial court, he exported wine to the Belgian, Spanish, Romanian, Serbian and many other European royal courts, he supplied wine to the Russian army, to Japan, Brazil, Mexico and the USA, even to the Titanic wine cellar.

Today, the renovated Chateau Palugyay building is used by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
