A small cache, reasonably well hidden among two of Staten Island's biggest landmarks... that no one seems to pay much attention to.
A long time ago -at least before I was born- someone got the idea to put a pair of large oil/gas storage tanks here, only to -I'm hearing this second hand- never be used. Apparently someone got a chemical engineer to prove that if this place exploded for any inexplicable reason, it'd have the same effect as a medium-grade atomic explosion... so they were never used. Either way, nowadays it's home to a massive overgrowth of underbrush and used spray cans. Though tempting, I didn't climb up the catwalk all the way to the top as the winds were picking up.
Speaking of catwalk, the cache is secreted away on the north-east corner of the south-west tank, about eye level for a six-foot cacher.
I'd bring the bug repellent when the season calls for it, that and a good set of boots is a good idea.
Happy Caching!
