The Governor Generals' Jetty all wrapped in stone and pointing north to Black Mountain.
The current building, originally built in 1891, has had numerous extensions and renovations over the years. Prior to this a "Hunting Lodge" circa 1831 had been built on the site. Near GZ you can see the State Dining room, various staff quarters and a fantastic garden by Charles Weston. Hidden out of view is also a splendid outdoor pool area.
A nice little insight to a prime Canberra location and the real seat of our Government. The steps were graced by Queen Elizabeth II on her 2011 tour of Australia. They actually shipped in a Royal Australian Navy barge for her to cruise the lake.
Quick and easy, probably shouldn't be done while dignitaries are visiting, but take a chance, you may never know who you will see!
Location generally closed to traffic but there is parking nearby. Great place to MTB, walk the dog etc. This area is National Capital Authority land, so any inquiries should be directed to them (or myself). Bring a pen.
Enjoy!
