Geocache Description:

A little cache on a greenway called Dark Lane, which runs between Finstock and Fawler.

A little cache on a greenway called Dark Lane, which runs between Finstock and Fawler.

Dark Lane was originally called Stonyway and was the ancient route to a ford through the Evenlode River and Fawler Roman Villa. The track later joined the two villages with Taplow, a settlement abandoned in the 14th century: earthen outlines of village houses can be found by taking the footpath heading east and up the hill from the cache, around 51.84739N and 1.46312W.

Parking is available in either of the extant villages. Access is by footpaths from four directions: there are nice walks to Wilcot or Ramsden. A shorter walk around Finstock that follows Dark Lane can be found here.

Further afield there are good geocaching opportunities on Stonesfield Common and around Charlbury.

The cache is in a small valley beneath trees, so locating it precisely with GPS may present some difficulties: we hope the hint helps. You are looking for a tupperware box, big enough for small swapables.
