PORTUGUÊS:
Reza a lenda que No início do século IX, os Cristãos ganhavam terreno aos Mouros. Governava o Conde Hermenegildo Gutierres o território da Galiza até Coimbra, tendo como centro o Porto. Contudo, o Califa Abderramão II, com um poderoso exército, fez uma violenta investida, cercando a cidade do Porto. O Rei Ordonho II desceu em socorro do seu sogro, o Conde Gutierres, conseguindo afastar os Mouros e perseguindo-os para longe da cidade. Junto a um límpido ribeiro, travou-se a sangrenta batalha. Na memória do povo, ficou o sangue derramado que, de tão abundante, tingiu as cristalinas águas do rio, passando desde então a chamar-se Rio Tinto.

Actualmente, o Rio Tinto está bastante poluido, sendo que a empresa Metro do Porto se comprometeu a limpar o rio, e assim devolver aos rio-tintenses o seu ex-líbris.

A cache está junto à nova estação da Levada, na linha F do Metro do Porto.

ENGLISH:
The legend says that In the early ninth century, Christians where gaining ground from the Moors. Count Hermenegildo Gutierrez ruled the territory between Comibra and Galiza, using the Oporto city as “capital”. However, the Caliph Abd ar-Rahman II, with a powerful army, made an onslaught, attacking the city of Oporto. The King II Ordonho descended to the rescue of his father-in-law, the Count Gutierrez, pushing the Moors away from the city. Beside a clear brook, was fought the bloody battle. In the memory of the people was the bloodshed that was so abundant that dyed the crystalline waters of the river, and since then called the Rio Tinto (Red River).

Nowadays the Rio Tinto is very polluted, but the Metro do Porto company committed to clean it and give back the ex-libris to the citizens.

The cache is near the new subway station called “Levada”, that belongs to the Metro do Porto line F.

- Rio Tinto Train Stations.
- Rio Tinto Church.
- Nossa Senhora da Lapa Chapel.
