Well hidden micro P&G in Franklin Community Park
May 4 2003, a massive high-end F4 / F5 tornado barreled through the tiny unincorporated town of Franklin (5 miles north of Frontenac), the path reached over 1/2 miles wide at points & was so strong, dramatic scouring of the ground was observed, and heavy objects such as vehicles were tossed long distances. Franklin was all but destroyed. Numerous buildings and homes were demolished, 3 deaths were reported, along with approximately 20 injuries.
Cleanup following this disaster was a major undertaking. Even after the town was restored to a liveable area for most residents, there was still much to do.
Approximately 18 months after the storm, work started on the new Franklin Community Park, which happened to include a small pecan tree with a large piece of metal embedded in it, hurled there as the tornado ripped past. Bigger trees, utility poles & many buildings were lost to this huge tornado but this small tree stood fast & survived.

The cache is close to this tree, as we wanted to bring visitors to this pretty little park in memory of those that lost their lives to this & other local storms.
Container is a micro & is deviously hidden...
FYI: This park has a Security Officer & closed-circuit security cameras. Jim, the Security Officer, has given his permission to place this cache & he's often out here, sitting in his truck, keeping an eye on things. If you see him, do stop & say hi - he's quite friendly! And if not, smile - you're on candid camera!! Jim has also asked for our help in keeping things nice & family-friendly here. Please pick up any trash you see (there's a trash can right next to the cache) & please report any suspicious activity or vandalism to the Crawford Co. Sheriff's Dept - Thanks!!
