Geocache Description:

Bell Tower Church: This church, situated in Monument Road and built in 1953, is one of Kempton Park’s landmarks. It is constructed of finely precast concrete elements, an unusual construction mode at the time. Today it is a theatre.

Klok Toring Kerk: Hierdie kerk in Monumentweg was gebou in 1953.

[English] The history of the church began on 10 June 1946 with a request by the Kempton Park members of the Reformed Church to the church council of Benoni to establish their own church in Kempton Park. Shortly after rev. J.C. Kruger was confirmed as in the newly formed Reformed church of Kempton Park, attention was given to the construction of a church building. Early in 1953 construction of the building started. The church became known as the Church of the uncompleted tower, because of its extraordinary construction. The first service was held in the church on 28 November 1953.

In August 1989 it was decided to build a larger church. The new church complex was then erected in Hugget street. On 9 October 1993 Reformed Church: Kempton Park moved to the new complex after using the church for 40 years.

The building is now used as a Theatre (The Bell Tower) and on Sunday’s you would find worship services here of the Word in Action Ministries.

One of the items that makes the church so special is the fine precast concrete construction was very unusual at that time.

[English] Please be extremly careful of mugglers
