Geocache Description:

Cache IS at the posted coordinates

To date one of my favorite challenges has been the Challenge of Collaboration (GC1NHGX) on Challenge Alley in Sacramento, CA. After some encouragement from a friend of that owner, I decided to make the same challenge a bit more accessible to Utah cachers. The challenge is to find a cache with 100 different cachers (i.e. caching accounts). (No, not all at once!) We have a pretty active caching community here so this one shouldn't be too hard.

If you wish to work on this challenge, it may be easier to keep a list going forward rather than trying to backtrack and remember who you have found caches with when. I started the original 9 months after its start date. There were a couple caches that really stood out in my mind because they lead to me meeting other cachers while I was on the road. Trying to remember who I found what cache with locally after events was a blur. I wrote down those few stand outs, then just started keeping track. It took me a year and four months to complete the challenge. Now you all know the real reason I started the Sunday Morning Hiking Series. I needed more people to find caches with! :-)

Obviously I can't find this challenge but I do plan to keep track again. I'll post when I hit 100. See if you can get there before me!

Here are the rules for the challenge (borrowed from the original cache page. Thank you!):

Examples to get you started:

  • You head out with your family, all of whom have individual Geocaching accounts. (Your significant other and two kids)  You guys find a few caches while on a hike. This counts as THREE other cachers that you have found a cache with.

  • You go caching with another husband and wife caching team. They cache together under one name called PeanutsParents. This counts as ONE other cacher that you have found a cache with.

  • You meet up with your caching buddy and head out for a bike ride. You find a good number of caches while out and about. This counts as ONE other cacher that you have found a cache with.

  • You are out caching when someone walks up on you and asks, "Are you looking for a geocache?" Turns out that they are a cacher too who you just happened to meet while on the hunt. You both find the cache, sign the log and part ways. This counts asONE other cacher that you have found a cache with. (Note: If it was a DNF, it does still count. The point is to meet other cachers and make new friends. However, you both MUST post a DNF on that cache on the same day to prove that you actually met by a mention in your log.)

  • You are caching ON THE WAY to an event and run into a group of four cachers in the parking lot at a cache. (Not the event cache) This counts as FOUR other cachers that you have found a cache with.

  • You are at an event and make arrangements to go and find a cache away from the event with 2 other cachers. In the parking lot or not, this counts as two other cachers that you have found a cache with.

  • As an introduction, you take someone out to introduce them to Geocaching. By the end of the day they are “hooked” and create an account and log their finds. This counts as ONE other cacher that you have found a cache with.

Other Rules/Requirements:

  • You must find, or attempt to find caches with at least 100 DIFFERENT cachers.  They do not need to be all at the same time.

  • Your list of friends must be comprised of real cachers with real Geocaching accounts.  No sock puppet account can be used. Caching with "muggles" does not count, unless you convert them to geocachers as described in the example above.

  • In your logs for a cache, find or DNF, you must mention who you searched with or met at the cache site. There are some practical issues here but please try.

  • If you accompany a cacher to a cache you have already found, but they have not, or vice-versa, post a note saying you were there and helped (or "hinted") with the search.

  • Event, CITO, Mega Event or other gatherings for events do not count.  Only, in the field, available to everyone, at any time, type caches count.

  • You must have been with that other person in the field and signed the log together. No armchair finds count for this one.

  • Note on Puzzles: One of you solved the puzzle, great. You must both go out together and find the cache at the same time.

Logging Requirements:

  • In your found log for this challenge you must list you new friends, the cache you found together, and the date you found it. If you choose to use a bookmark list the cachers you cached with in the description for each cache.

GC# Cache Name Date found Caching Friends # of Names
GCJB0Q Brave Rifles! Remembered 12/12/2010 DaphM, kimbest, gotwings, windbeneath, fanugler, Slamsmith, MarshallOD, PEAKBAGGINGGEO, Ho'okele 9

  • Your list of cachers must consist of 100 DIFFERENT caching names. You may have cached with couples or even families that all cache under one account. In these instances, they count as ONE cacher name in your list. Example: MomtheCook&CachinHubby = ONE cacher name.

  • You can sign the log at any time but can not claim your find until the above requirements have been met.

Have fun getting to know more cachers!!
