This is a night-time only cache. You will need
a high powered flashlight or LED headlamp in order to locate the
cache.
Posted co-ordinates are for the trailhead. To find the cache, refer
to Finding the Cache below.
In the early days, people thought spiders such as this one hunted
in packs like wolves hence their being called wolf spiders.
Wolf spiders are in fact, solitary hunters. They are quick and
agile and have excellent eyesight. They have 8 eyes in total and
two of them are quite large. They tend to hunt at night and as
such, when you shine a light into the forest you can see the
reflection in their eyes.
Finding the Cache
Once you arrive at the second trailhead, proceed north about 40 m
along the smaller side trail and shine your light to the west of
the trail. To find this Letterbox cache, you will need to locate 4
wolf spiders that are lying in wait in the forest - each one can be
found at a height of about 1.5 m as they scurry up the trees. Once
you have pinpointed their location, position yourself in the centre
of the area in which they are hunting and shine your light in a
360° arc to discover some exceptionally large spiders guarding
their lair. Be careful when you pry into it, as spiders are known
to bite when they feel threatened.
There is a stamp and ink pad in the cache - these are NOT to
be removed from the cache. Use them to stamp your Letterboxing
notebook if you have one but be sure to leave these items in the
cache.
Be sure to visit Glow
Worms and Lookin' for Love
in all the Wrong Species while in the area.
