Geocache Description:

This cache is a basic 2-stage multi with a twist. In tribute to the people whose ancestors helped establish the Village of Little Chute, finding the final will require a little international relations.

Anyone familiar with the Little Chute is familiar of its ancestral ties to the Netherlands. These ties date back to 1836 when Father Theodore J. Van den Broek arrived in this area of French territory known as “La Petite Chute” with the intent to establish a Dominican mission. At the same time he purchased land he hoped to sell to future Dutch immigrants. Father Van den Broek began to write letters about the area to groups in the Netherlands. The letters appeared in the Roman Catholic paper, De Tijd (The Times) advertising the mission, the available land, and employment opportunities associated with the Fox River Canal, which included free passage to America for workers. The results were immediate and, by 1848, three ships containing approximately 918 Dutch Catholic immigrants had been booked for passage. Despite many hardships upon arrival, including the death of Father Van den Broek in 1851, the village prospered. Waves of Catholic Dutch emigrants followed from all over the Netherlands, with whole families and neighborhoods moving to join family and friends already established in the area.

***How to get to the final: Start by finding WP1 at the posted coordinates. Inside, you’ll find the final coordinates…just not to the final for this cache. To get the final coordinates for this cache you’ll need to “go Dutch” and find a caching partner to split the task. In the spirit of fairness, only partner with someone who has yet to find the cache. Once each of you has done your part, you should be able to swap information so each cacher can make the more conveniently placed final finds in your own country.

In the spirit of international relations with our Dutch geocaching brethren and as a reward for teamwork, once you have logged your find here in Little Chute your caching partner may log this cache as found as well. (You will be able to do the same with the cache you help them find). Be sure to list the name of your partner in your log so they get credit.

A special thanks to my Dutch caching partner, Ton, for his part in making this cache come together.

Permission for the final location has been granted by Director Philip P. Stecker.

***CONGRATS to Lacknothing and JoEmAnVe for partnering up for the FTF on this cache!
