Geocache Description:

Welcome to Flitwick - with a silent 'W'. This is a series of caches designed to increase Flitwick's presence on the caching map. They will be added gradually over the winter of 2010 / 2011. If you wish to chase the FTF you'll have to come here often. Alternatively you may want to wait till all of them (I'm intending for them to be 15 plus a bonus cache) to be in place. Plan your own route around the delights of Flitwick! Cache #3 is a collison between 'With a silent W' and the SideTracked series of caches. SideTracked caches are not designed to take you to a magical place with a breath taking view. They are just a distraction for the weary geocaching traveller, but anyone else can go and find it too. This cache has been set to create a cache and dash near Flitwick Station. The cache is not located located on railway property but is only about 30 seconds from the station. Flitwick railway station is in the centre of Flitwick. It is situated on the Midland Main Line. The station is managed by First Capital Connect, and is served by the Thameslink line service. Heading north, Flitwick is the penultimate stop before Bedford. Going south, trains go through London (modernisation programme and engineering work permitting) mostly to Brighton, but sometimes to Ashford, Rochester or Sevenoaks. Typically there are four trains per hour in each direction. Additionally, East Midlands Trains InterCity services from London to Leeds, Sheffield, Nottingham and Corby run through at high speed, but do not stop. The station was built by the Midland Railway in 1870 on its extension to St. Pancras. The original station buildings were restored in the early 1980s. There were originally platforms for two lines. This remained the case when the line was quadrupled. The up goods opened in 1893 and extended to Harlington in 1894; and the down goods opened in 1895. It was not until 1960 that British Railways added extra platforms to cater for extended stopping services between Bedford and London. The station has a newsagents early weekday mornings and a cafe (mornings only). It also has plentiful supply of taxis. The cache is a small tube, a bit bigger than a film pot. It is not magnetic, but could be. It contains a log and pencil (though I'd recommend you bring your own writing instrument just in case). Don't bother to collect the information needed for the bonus - there isn't one! Please log any issues / DNF's - as I can check the cache most days if needed. CONGRATULATIONS: FTF - THE MENTAL MARAUDERS
