Das Schützenbergmoor ist
ein Plateau-Hochmoor im Kammbereich des Thüringer Waldes. Es liegt
auf der flach nach Südwesten einfallenden Hochfläche des
Schützenberges in etwa 890m Höhe ü.NN.
Das Moor ist schwach uhrglasförmig aufgewölbt. Seine größte
Mächtigkeit erreicht es im östlichen Teil mit 2,50m und streicht
nach den Rändern zu flach aus. Das Wachstum des Moores beträgt om
Jahr etwa 0,7 mm. Das Schützenbergmoor erhält Jahresniederschläge
von etwa 1250 mm, die Jahresmitteltemperatur liegt bei 5°C. Durch
häufige Nebel und lange Schneelagen wird das Gebiet zusätzlich
befeuchtet.
Wegen der Torfnutzung und forstlichen Bewirtschaftung wurde das
Moor Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts teilweise entwässert. Auch wenn die
Austrocknung und Degeneration hier nicht so stark wie in anderen
Mooren war, blieb eine Beeinträchtigung zurück, die langsam große
Teile des Moores zuwachsen ließen und damit zum Aussterben von
Arten führten.
Das Schützenbergmoor wurde am 11. September 1967 als
Naturschutzgebiet gesichert. Es darf nur auf dem ausgewiesenen
Lehrpfad betreten werden.
Zur Lösung des Caches sind folgende Fragen auf den Schautafeln vor
Ort zu beantworten:
1. Woraus besteht der geologische Untergrund der Oberhofer
Schichten?
2. In welchem Erdzeitalter sind diese Schichten entstanden?
3. Aus welchem Gestein besteht der schmale Streifen, der das
Schutzgebiet in südost-nordwestlicher Richtung durchquert?
4. Wann begann der Verlandungsprozess?

The "Schützenbergmoor" is a bog in the ridge area of the Thuringian
Forest. It is situated on a plateau about 890m above sea level
height, which occurs to shallow to the southwest.
The bog is similar to a watch glass arched. It reaches its greatest
thickness in the eastern part of 2,50 m. At the edges it is flat.
The growth of the bog is in about 0.7 mm. The "Schützenbergmoor"
receives annual precipitation of about 1250 mm, mean annual
temperature is 5 ° C. With frequent fog and snow the area is
additionally moistened.
Because of degradation of peat and forest management mid of 19th
century the bog was partially drained. The dehydration and
degeneration was not as strong as in other bogs. Nevertheless
remained a nuisance. Large parts of the bog grow slowly. This led
to the extinction of species.
The "Schützenbergmoor" was on 11 September 1967 secured as a nature
reserve. It may only be entered on the designated trail. To solve
the cache following questions should be answered on the spot:
1. What is the geological subsoil of the Oberhofer layers?
2. In which geological era these layers are created?
3. Which rock is the narrow strip that runs through the protected
area in South-north-westerly direction?
4. When started the silting process?
