A simple and short two stage multi, close to terminal 2. Some 10minutes walk from terminal 5, going inside through all the other terminals.
For some 1000 years ago lived a people called the Vikings. They originated from Sweden, Denmark and Norway (the Scandinavian countries), but spread to such diverse places as Iceland, Greenland, Russia, north of France, Great Britain etc.
They liked to travel, but not only for plunder and treasure seeking, as some think, but trade was much important, and even work employment was a source for travel.
The Vikings from this local region (the Mälaradalen and Uppland region were the airport is situated) were great travelers going mostly to the east. They travelled across the Baltic Sea, to nowadays Finland and the Baltic countries and by the rivers going eastwards into today´s Russia, Belorussia, Ukraine, and Bulgaria and beyond. It is said that Russia, got its name from the word Ros, meaning inhabitants of Roslagen. Roslagen is the name for the islands and coast of Uppland but have no exact boundaries.
The Finnish word for Sweden, Routsi has the same source.
The first Russian dynasties had close ties with the Viking lords from Uppland and Mälardalen region, marrying daughters and sons with each other families. The Kiev dynasty founder, Rurik was of Scandinavian origin according to the Nestor chronicles.
The Vikings travelled also to Istanbul, then the Byzantium capital Constantinople, called by the Vikings, Miklagård, were some Vikings took employment as bodyguards to the emperor (called väring by the Vikings, varjag by the Russians).
The Middle East was also visited and called Särkland by the Vikings. Trade and contacts was of great importance for this voyages.
One of the great contemporary sources of information about this time comes from rune stones. There are many remaining in the region around the airport, and in fact there is one situated inside the airport!
This rune stone is one of the famous Ingvar rune stones. These rune stones tell us about a voyage going eastwards, lead by a Viking lord named Ingvar Emundsson (called Ingvar the far travelled). The expedition reached to the far shores of the Caspian Sea, but went badly, with few returning back. This happened somewhere 1036-1040 AD.
Nowadays the ancestors of the Vikings also like to travel. In fact, the people of Scandinavia are amongst the most well travelled in the world. The charter travel market started as early as in the 1950 ties.
Travelling reasons has changed somewhat, not so much plunder and war anymore (over 200 years without war in Sweden) but the trade and employment part is more important, and of course touristic travel as new goal is the most important reason for travel. Linking people to people all over the world is of all time importance, but now of course it is has reached further out in the world.
About the cache:
The coordinates leads close to the place of a rune stone situated inside terminal 2. To get the coordinates for the cache you have to go inside, closest to the GPS zero spot were the rune stone is and study the information table beside it and find the following answers to these questions:
