Geocache Description:

The Maltern Way is a medieval track that crosses the north part of Dartmoor's South Moor, roughly from Burrator Reservoir to Venford Reservoir. The track is marked by a series of 12 crosses spaced out along the length of the path which would have acted as waymarkers to the ancient travellers and in many cases the next cross is visible from the previous cross. No track exists today to link these crosses, and although many of them are on a path it is not particularly easy to walk from cross to cross, this being quite a remote, and in many cases boggy, part of the moor. Many of the 12 crosses already have caches placed close to them but the eastern 3 do not. This series of caches have been placed near Skir Ford Cross, Horse Ford Cross and Horn's Cross and can all easily be found during a fairly short walk from Combestone. I would like to thank the Dartmoor National Park Authority for their kind permission to allow me to place this cache
