Geocache Description:

In an effort to build cacher awareness of the historic caches in Allegan County, Michigan, this challenge has been issued.

The cache container for this challenge is Not located at the given coordinates but a good place to park. To claim a find on this challenge, you must find and log five of the seven oldest active caches in Allegan County.

Once you have found, logged and documented any five of the below listed caches, you may find and log this one. Caches found at any time count. To document your qualifying finds by using the challenge checker provided. Logs entered without proper documentation will be deleted. You may also create a bookmark if you wish. Proceed to trailhead and follow trail and you you should spot a fairly obvious hiding spot to the left when you are about 70ft north of bench. Head to that beacon and you will find what you seek.

As of June 2023 the page has been updated as there is a new top seven list.

The seven oldest active caches in Allegan County are as of June 2023 are:

GC3562..... Laketown Lockup .................Hidden 1/26/02
GC7D57...... I-196 South Bug Hotel ..........Hidden 8/10/02

Now if for some reason you do not have at least 5 of the 7 current oldest, you may substitute any cache from the list below that was once a historical cache  but is now in cache heaven.  In that event you will have to list your qualifying caches in your log and the date you found them or make a public bookmark as the challenge checker only reflects the current 7.

This cache is in River Bluff Park off Old Allegan Road in Saugatuck Township. Old Allegan Road was built in 1935, following a Native American trail which ran along the north shore of the Kalamazoo River. Stagecoaches ran this road, providing an important link between the city of Allegan and the lakeshore.

The cache is a small camo'd Lock 'n Lock, originally filled with frogs, lizards, lots of pathtags, geocoins, and an ancient Egyptian symbol rendered in silver. It's hidden in a traditional manner. The difficulty rating is based on what you have to do to get credit for it. Otherwise it'd be a 1 ... Please cover it back up to keep the muggles out!

Don't miss River Bluff and Heritage Trail #19 caches, also in this park!
