Here in the southern slopes are lots of olive trees and also
cultivated plots. The nearest places are Souda and Sellia. In Souda
there are lovely beaches and it is a very quiet place in the
winter-time. Sellia is on the the east side with wonderful outlook
over the area and the Kotsifou Gorge.
The best way to the cache is from the south coast road between
Sellia and Rodakino. About 5 kilometers west of Sellia there is a
sign for Finikas - N35 12.300 E24 21.042, re photo. Follow the dirt
road down to the cacheplace, about 1 km.
It is also possible to take off from Souda, but much more
complicated since you either have to zig-zag up a small road where
it is not very obvious where to drive, or walk up a shorter route
with shortcut through olive groves - not recommended if you have
not been here before. You cannot see the Monastery until you are
almost on the place. There is also a small chapel newly renovated.
From Souda it is possible to see a path crossing in the hillside
against west where the Monastery is. This path can be used when
walking from the Monastery to Sellia. It takes off a little above
the cacheplace
For people that like walking, it is possible to take a walk from
Plakias to Souda, up to Moni Finika, east to Sellia, down to the
Kotsifou gorge and stream and visit Plakias old mill where there is
also a cache.
The cache is a small plastic box with pencil, logbook and some
trading stuff, wrapped in a plastic bag.
